The Day One Program is a voluntary program that works with all new parents to help them and their children get off to a healthy start.
Families can be enrolled in Day One during their prenatal phase or before the infant turns two months old. They can remain on the program through age three.
The programs goal is to build a trusting, working relationship that assess for family strengths, needs and referrals as needed. This will enhance the family by teaching problem solving skills; promote positive parent-child interaction as well as healthy childhood growth and development. These goals can help to prevent child abuse and other poor childhood outcomes. Day one sees the potential problems that include: being a single parent, living in a rural area, having limited transportation, financial difficulties, and have few employment opportunities and limited family resources.
